‘We are very happy that we have succeeded in concluding this agreement with our Russian counterparts,’ says Auditor General Jørgen Kosmo. ‘An audit of this kind is an active contribution to the long-term improvement of safety at and around the nuclear plants and to reducing the risk of harm from nuclear waste.’

The audit will assess the effectiveness and efficiency of the utilisation of central government funds allocated for the following purposes:

• Security, control and supervision of nuclear power plants

• Handling and transportation of radioactive waste

• The exchange of information and cooperation on emergency preparedness

• Environmental monitoring related to radioactive radiation

The audit will be carried out during the course of 2008 and 2009.
