International auditing assignments

The OAG wants to promote greater transparency and better management in international organisations of which Norway is a member.

We therefore take on the responsibility of external auditor for international organisations. This type of task also adds valuable expertise to the OAG. We follow INTOSAI's recommendations and want full coverage of costs when we take on the responsibility of external auditor for international organisations. This has made it challenging to win assignments in competition with SAIs with lower wage costs, or those that operate without following this requirement.

In 2017, the OAG's portfolio included the following audit assignments:

  • The EFTA monitoring body (ESA), the EFTA court and the EFTA secretariat, along with EEA transfers to new EU members: The OAG has been a member of the EFTA Board of Auditors (EBOA) in Brussels since 1992. In the autumn of 2017, a new member from the OAG was appointed for the period from 2018 to 2021. This person was elected leader of the EBOA in January 2018.
  • Board of Auditors for the European Patent Office (EPO): The OAG has had one representative on the Board of Auditors for the EPO in Munich since 1 January 2013. In 2017, the representative was re-elected for a period of five years, until 2022.
  • European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF): In 2016, the OAG was appointed as external auditor for ECMWF for the accounting years 2016– 2019.
